Located a stones throw from Southbank on the city fringe, is another central city group accommodation provider. Reminiscent of an upmarket backpackers or ‘flashpackers’ as now many of them are now known.
Over the past few weeks I have visited numerous city centre and city fringe accommodation places and appears that the grungy backpackers are becoming a bit of a rarity in one of Australia’s most liveable cities. This multi-story dwelling has sparse bunk rooms, all heated and cooled. They can accommodate groups of up to 150.
It has the usual levels of offering for this type of facility such as Internet room, café and self catering kitchen. Some of the family rooms have an up-market hotel feel about them, with tasteful colour coordinated décor and matching bed spreads. I’m seeing more and more of this level of presentation and I like it.
The self catering kitchen area looks vast, industrial like with its stainless steel bench tops and fridges, allowing groups to separate themselves from other travelling guests. What really is different about this place is it has a sports bar and stage for bands or group entertainment activities.
