The final Board meeting for 2014 was held on the 21st November, and was followed by the ACA AGM.
This occasion gave us an opportunity to farewell two departing Board members, Julie Parr (SA) and John Woods (Qld). We thank both sincerely for their service to the ACA, wish them well and look forward to the next time we meet, hopefully outdoors!
We also welcomed returning Board members, Andrew Govan (SA) and Bec Fox (Qld), as well as our newest Board member, Daniel Findlay (Vic). Daniel has extensive experience in the camping industry both in Australia and overseas and currently heads up the DOXA Malmsbury Camp in Victoria.
This meeting also marked the last one with Andrew McGuckian in the President’s chair. Liz Leyshan will take up the role (for the second time) in 2015. Our grateful thanks go to Andrew for his commitment and contribution, and welcome (back) to Liz.
As always, it is pleasing to be able to note new members to the ACA. Seven were accepted at this meeting, including two camps and a range of service providers.
The ACA CEO, David Pretherick, gave a summation of the very successful 2014 GACO (Great Aussie Camp Out) event, noting that participation was up sixfold from 2013. Pleasingly, campers from every state participated and enjoyed a night out in the great outdoors.
The Board also received a report from Maree Feutrill, Convenor of the Training Sub Committee. This report covered the most recent ICDC course, held in SA in mid-August and which attracted participants from SA, Vic, NSW, WA and Tasmania.
Other recent training courses of note included an anaphylaxis course held in conjunction with the Christian Venues Association (CVA) and conducted by Allergy and Anaphylaxis Australia, and a Child safety and Childwise course run in conjunction with UC camping. Both are obviously important topics and we plan to offer further training in the near future to interested ACA members.
At the AGM the Board adopted a number of amendments to the constitution which relate to how the board is made up. Look for these details when receiving AGM notices.
On behalf of the Board I’d like to wish all ACA members a relaxed and enjoyable Christmas. We look forward to continuing to work with all our members to encourage more people outdoors more often!
