Ace-Hi Ranch (VIC)

As you arrive at Ace Hi Ranch you are created with a mural stating ‘NO PETS PLEASE…temperamental horses & neurotic chickens’. I like it! It immediately looks like it is going to be a fun camp. Set in a true old American cowboy western style theme park, with authentic covered wagon’s, old railway buildings, rail carriages and themed named buildings it plays on this experience to its origins and I can understand why groups like coming again and again. Who doesn’t like being indulged in a camp where your imagination is set free from time to time?
On arrival Tony and Lauren greet me outside the Chapel, complete with graveyard. I never did find out if anyone or thing for that matter was buried there! The Chapel has been tastefully renovated into a 100 seat dinning hall. The stunning stained glass window at the head of the chapel floods the interior with opaque light. The camp runs horse riding camps as a main focus with rides going out onto the 200 acre undulating coastal property, however it also runs traditional style camp activities such as swimming, volley ball, archery, climbing on the purpose built structure, low ropes, giant swing and the longest flying fox at 270 m I’ve seen to date. I would love to know what member camp out there does in fact have the longest fox in Australia???
The lodgings are spread out amongst the village from old train carriages used as multi-bed bunk houses, to modern en-suited family rooms. What impressed me were the triple bunks. Hadn’t seen that before and certainly meant you can get extra in a room by taking advantage of the ceiling height. The covered old Western wagons (also used as 4-bed sleeping quarters) circled the central fireplace. It is not difficult to understand why people love sitting around this fire, letting their imaginations drift, old or young, Ace Hi Ranch have captured the true old western theme park experience.
Other amenities are the barn hall, again in ranch style complete with stage, the jailhouse and rodeo arena. Nestled away from the main camp and completely hidden is a caravan park with permanent holiday units with fantastic sea views, all set amongst the undulating coastal hills.
